Our mission

This cruise excursion is designed especially for Cruise Ship Clients, in the light of 11 years of experience with them. Our purpose is not only to show you all the best of Rome, any other company would do the same. Our purpose is to make you experience our city like only a roman might do. Both, Piero and I, were born in Rome and have always lived here. It goes without saying then, that you’ll experience Rome, its people, its atmosphere, its habits, its lifestyle, its food and its famous monuments as you would, if you were a native here. The visit will be immersive and touch history, religion, art, archaeology, culture and customs, so that it will become an unforgettable experience to talk about for years. (Detailed program below).

The timing

Normally, cruise ships dock at around 6:00 am and set sail by 8:00 pm. In my experience, you will able to be into the city by 8:30 am. In the PM, you will have to catch the train back to Civitavecchia at the latest at 5:00. This 8 hours are in my opinion good enough for the tour I’m proposing you.

The car

For this excursion you’ll be safely driven in our comfortable, brand new, black Mercedes Viano with air conditioning and tinted windows which can accommodate up to 6 of you.

Thanks to its special authorization our van has access to the city centre of Rome, and is allowed to use the lanes reserved for  public transportation in order to skip the heavy urban traffic. It can drop us off very close to the sights and use parking places prohibited to other cars.

The car can drive through narrow streets and show us all the corners out of mass circuits. Finally, don’t overlook the unique comfort of using a car with air conditioning and tinted windows to visit Rome during our long and hot Roman summer!

This Cruise Excursion is by car, but has of course a lot of drop-offs and walks, too. How long these walks will be depends on you, and you can decide it during the tour. You will have the time to admire the venues, listen to my explanations, take pictures and…off to the next wonder!

Shore Excursion to Rome: Tour Program

By car, we can enjoy the best views of Rome. We will see St. Peter’s dome framed by the world’s most famous key lock, from the top of one the so-called seven hills of Rome; the Roman Forum from the Capitol Hill; the entire city from the Janiculum Hill and the Colosseum from the Esquiline. This great view will give us the best framework for my stories about the Gladiators!

We will see the Colosseum, the Circus Maximus, the Palatine Hill, the Roman Forum and the Imperial Forums and of course, also the famous squares of Rome, such as Piazza di Spagna, Piazza San Pietro, Piazza Navona, Piazza Venezia, Piazza del Popolo, Capitol Hill Square and the monuments of the Baroque district, such as the Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon, the Spanish Steps, St. Angelo Castle, the busy Trastevere district, the Tiber Island and the Ghetto (the Jewish neighbourhood of Rome).

If, during the tour, you get a little peckish, never mind! We can stop and taste the typical street food of Rome: supplí, piazza, fried anchovies, tripe, artichokes, puntarelle, baccala (cod) filet, gelato, so to fully enjoy the visit and live a truly, complete and unforgettable experience of Rome.

This Cruise Excursion is a 4-hour tour, doesn’t include any entrance (which means you’ll be looking at the sights from the outside) and normally finishes at around 1 pm; but if you wish, of course, we can extend it with the visit of the Sistine Chapel, which is inside the Vatican Museums, and St. Peter’s Basilica.

Extension to the Vatican

At the end of the 4-hour car tour, the driver will drop us off at the Vatican Museums. Thanks to our reserved tickets we will skip the line and visit the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter’s Basilica for 2 more hours together. We’ll be finishing our visit at St. Peter’s Square, 700 meters (a 10-minute walk) away from Roma-San Pietro station where you can take your train back to Civitavecchia.

Combo Train/Car Shore excursion from Civitavecchia

To make this Rome Shore excursion cheaper, I suggest you to reach Rome by fast train and then visit it comfortably on our private vans. Catching a train in Civitavecchia is easier and faster than you would imagine and I’ll be steering you for the planning. Instea of picking you up at the port, the driver Piero and I will come at the Train Station Roma-San Pietro, right by the Vatican. It means you will be guided through Rome by a Rome and Vatican official Guide since the very first moment. In the case you prefere to take the train, I’d suggest you to choose a Direct train to Rome. It is called “Regionale” or “Regionale Veloce”, so you’ll arrive straight to Roma-San Pietro station, without any switch. This is the official website for the train info We can’t know in advance at which pier your Cruise ship will dock. It can be at the new seaport, next to the shopping area, or in front of Michelangelo’s fortification! By the way, the train station of Civitavecchia is 700 meters south of the seaport entrance. To join it walking, you’ll have to walk along the seaside, keeping the beach on your right hand side. St. Peter’s Square is 700 meters away from Roma-San Pietro train Station. Giving your back to St. Peter’s  Basilica, the train station is to the right.
